Get Ready, Leeds! White Cloth Hall Unveils Its Doors This Bank Holiday Weekend

It’s been a year in the making, but the wait is finally over—Leeds’ newest all-day food and drink hall, White Cloth Hall, is set to make its grand debut this Bank Holiday Weekend, and we hope it’s got the city buzzing with anticipation.

Located in the heart of Leeds on Crown Street, just behind the iconic Corn Exchange, White Cloth Hall is ready to become your go-to spot for an epic food and drink experience. This isn’t just any opening—it’s the revival of a historic gem. Originally built in 1775, White Cloth Hall was once a bustling hub for cloth merchants, a cornerstone of the North’s rich trading history. Now, after a stunning transformation, this Grade-II* listed building is stepping into the spotlight once again, this time as one of Leeds’ most exciting food destinations.

Mark your calendars, because the doors swing open at noon on Friday, August 23rd, kicking off a weekend filled with flavour, fun, and festivities. Whether you’re planning a day out with the family, catching up with friends, or simply exploring the city solo, White Cloth Hall has something for everyone.

The Food Line-Up: A Feast for the Senses

Prepare your taste buds for a culinary journey like no other. White Cloth Hall is launching with four incredible kitchens, each bringing their unique flair to the table, and trust us—you’re going to want to try them all.

First up and one we are most excited about is the first proper kitchen from Salma. This is a fresh Mexican kitchen concept from a well-known face on the Leeds food scene Hugo Monypenny (@eatmormor & @goodboyburger ). Offering a menu of small plates and antojitos (snacks), tacos, ceviche and asado. The menu offers authentic, bold Mexican flavours with a modern twist, blending the historical Arabic influences often found in Mexican cooking. Could this be his best kitchen yet?

Fear not, the rest of the food is well-known to Leeds but still as tasty. Pizza Loco, now part of the Whitelocks family and a firm local favourite from north Leeds (and street food scene), are introducing their brand-new concept, Morty’s Focacceria. Get ready to sink your teeth into their famous panuozzi sandwiches, alongside Sicilian-style sfincione pizza slices that are nothing short of addictive. And if you’re in the mood for something light, their sfizi small plates are perfect for sharing—or not!

Next, the much-loved Kuala Lumpur Cafe is making the move from Headingley to the city centre, and they’re bringing all the rich, aromatic flavors of Malaysia with them. Dive into their signature Nasi Lemak, indulge in their hearty Rendang Curries, or savor the flaky, buttery goodness of Roti Canai. It’s the kind of food that warms your soul.

Then there’s Lupton’s Chop House, a brand-new venture from the creative minds behind Whitelock’s Ale House. Think premium meat cuts, the freshest seafood, and an oyster bar that’ll have you coming back for more. Inspired by Victorian-era Chop Houses, Lupton’s is all about celebrating the best of Yorkshire produce with a modern twist.

More Than Just Food: Coffee, Cocktails, and Community

But the excitement doesn’t stop at the food. White Cloth Hall is also home to an all-day coffee shop, opening bright and early at 8am on weekdays. Start your day right with artisanal brews from Meanwood’s Echelon Coffee Roasters, paired with freshly baked pastries and brunch dishes that are simply too good to miss.

When the evening rolls around, it’s time to hit the main bar, where a wide selection of independent craft beers, continental lagers, and classic cocktails await. And for wine lovers, there’s a dedicated wine bar featuring a handpicked selection of quality wines and expertly crafted cocktails. To top it all off, enjoy an artisanal British charcuterie and antipasti menu that perfectly complements the drinks on offer.

A Historic Venue with a Fresh New Vibe

Ed Mason, the visionary behind White Cloth Hall and Managing Director of Whitelock’s, couldn’t be more excited about the launch. “It’s been a long time in the planning, and we hope we’ve done justice to this beautiful building,” he shares. “We’ve worked hard to create a space that’s welcoming, vibrant, and family-friendly, with something for everyone. This amazing building has had a varied history over the past 250 years—now it’s time for a new chapter, and we hope the city loves what we’ve done with it.”

So, Leeds, are you ready to discover your new favorite hangout? White Cloth Hall is about to make history—again. Don’t miss out on the grand opening this Bank Holiday Weekend. Whether you’re a foodie, a history buff, or just looking for a great time, White Cloth Hall is where you need to be.
