Chapter 81

A huge Leeds United badge has appeared on the roof of Trinity Leeds to mark the club’s promotion, and fans are hoping the celebrations will continue this weekend as the team eyes the Championship title.

The 306-square-metre ‘smiley’ crest, measuring 17.5m by 17.5m, was installed over two days by a specialist team and now stretches across the shopping centre’s glass dome. It pays tribute to the club’s cult-favourite yellow away kit and its revived 1973 crest, a circular blue badge featuring the letters ‘L’ and ‘U’ in bright yellow.

Drone footage shows the display is visible from miles away, making it the city’s biggest Leeds United tribute.

Trinity has also created a “wall of support” for fans to leave messages to the team. Open from 11am on Saturday until 4pm Monday, the installation on the bridge near Next allows visitors to pick up a mini card kit and share their well-wishes ahead of the city centre parade.

Steven Foster, Centre Director at Trinity Leeds, said:
“The city is absolutely buzzing with Leeds securing promotion to the Premier League. We wanted to show our support for the club and the fans – and hopefully celebrate as Champions this weekend.”
