Live Laugh Leeds – June

Words by
Larry Budd

Our resident comedian and journalist, Larry Budd has a look at all the funny events you can go to this month.

From children’s TV stars, to famous “Mumedians” – Leeds has it all this month.

Prepare to shout “Bogies” in public spaces as Dick and Dom arrive at the O2 Academy on the 8th of June. It’s 20 years since ‘Da Bungalow’ was first on TV. Four BAFTAs later, the duo translate their screen success into live mayhem.

Multi-Edinburgh-Award nominee Amy Gledhill is at the Hyde Park Book Club on the 11th of June. ‘The Girl Before The Girl You Marry’ is about those ex’s who move on just a bit ‘too’ fast.

We’re excited for comedy royalty at the Wardrobe on the 15th of June. Nashville’s James.

Austin Johnson is one of the best impressionists that Saturday Night Live has ever produced. Do not miss.

The internet sensation Gary Powndland brings his friends to the HiFi Club on the 16th of June, while on the same night, Debra Stephenson brings her ‘Many Voices Of…’ show to the City Varieties.

The rich man’s rich man, Jack Whitehall, has two nights at the First Direct Arena on the 17th and 18th of June, making him a slightly wealthier man than he already was. The show is called Settle Down – and Jack describes it as his most personal show yet.

You might know him as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under – and the inimitable Rhys Nicholson brings his latest stand-up to the Wardrobe on the 22nd of June.

Frankie Boyle just might have one or two edgy jokes at the Leeds Grand Theatre on the 25th of June. He encourages you to buy a ticket now, before currency becomes worthless, and you’re forced to join a struggling militia.

And Laura Belbin, aka Knee Deep In Life, is known for her brilliant pastiches of TikTok models. Now she brings a fresh stand-up show to City Varieties on the 26th of June. And by the way you can hear a chat with Laura in June’s Welcome To Leeds podcast.

Happy laughing everyone!
