🗞️ Live Laugh Leeds – Comedy in February

Words by
Chapter 81 / Larry Budd

After a quiet January, Leeds’ comedy scene is back in full swing with more big names booked for February.

Arguably the greatest stand up of all time (and I will argue with you if necessary) – Stewart Lee arrives at the Leeds Playhouse for three nights on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of February. It’s a brand-new show for 2024. Last time he was at the Playhouse, Lee spent thirty minutes berating the audience for not being clever enough for him. We almost fell for it.

The City Varieties has another stellar line up, with shows from legend Stephen K Amos, viral star Vittorio Angelone, the multi-talented Miles Jupp, the very funny Count Arthur Strong starting his farewell tour, I’m a Celebrity star Babatunde Aleshe, satirist Matt Forde, Janine Harouni, who tells us about a DNA test that doesn’t go to plan, BGT winner Viggo Venn, comedy magician Pete Firman, and the brilliant Guz Khan

Leeds Grand Theatre welcomes the BBC team behind I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue for a live show on the 26th of February, featuring Jack Dee and a cast of top-flight comedians.

National treasure Bill Bailey is in town on the 18th February for a new show “Thoughtifier” at the Leeds Arena. Bill promises a tour through the magnificent history of human thought and how it might help us survive a brave new world.

The Hyde Park Book Club has two excellent stand-ups this month. Ian Smith is a multi-award winning comedian. His new show, in Leeds on the 11th of February, is about “stress, teeth, love and going to Slovakia with your hairdresser to drive over a car with a tank”. And don’t miss Alexandra Haddow on the 15th of February – fresh from a sellout run at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Finally, if you’re into improv, check out the Leeds Comedy Pick N Mix on the 16th February at the Carriageworks Theatre, and as ever, look out for regular comedy nights at the Carriageworks Theatre, and as ever, look out for regular comedy nights at Headrow House, The Original Oak, The Hi-Fi Club, The Old Woollen, and the Parkside Tavern.
