The Significance of Pride

“Pride, of course, is still a protest. Always will be, but also it’s a celebration, isn’t it? A hundred percent. It’s all of us coming together and showing that each and every one of us doesn’t matter where we’re from or what our differences are; we’re there to be celebrated, aren’t we?”

“I was raised on a council estate. There were a lot of people from that area that really struggled with anyone who was different. Whether your skin colour was different, whether you wore glasses, or whether you were overweight, any differences.”

“I got into that radio station when I was about twelve making tea for DJs. That was the sticking plaster. That was the thing that made it go away. If I threw myself into radio, that made the noises of the gender dysphoria go away. But then the plaster used to fall off, particularly around sixteen, seventeen, because puberty was quite tough.”
