Live Laugh Leeds: Comedy in July 2025

Ah yes, the pre-Edinburgh-fringe lull. A chance for comedy fans to put their feet up, and have a few nights at home. Perhaps to get around to some of those annoying jobs in the house. That black-and-white picture of London with the red phone boxes won’t hang itself.

But wait!

The Leeds comedy landscape has changed. With the arrival of Glee Club, and the ever-impressive efforts of Hyde Park Book Club, there is plenty for us to see. And lots of it involves some of the best comics around, playing in a small and intimate space. That IKEA Piccadilly Circus canvas can wait until next month.

The Hyde Park Book Club is chock-full of ‘Work In Progress’ shows. My picks include Josh Jones and Christopher Macarthur-Boyd (3rd July), Amy Annette and Grace Mulvey (4th), Ian Smith (6th), Sharon Wanjohi & Thor Stenhaug (11th), and Josie Long (13th). There are many many more options at HPBC this July – check their listings here: https://www.hydeparkbookclub.co.uk/new-events-1

It’s been a brilliant start at Glee Club’s new Leeds home. Frankie Boyle, Brennan Reece, and Dylan Moran have been among the big names already to have graced the stage there. This July, we’ll see one of the rising stars of British stand-up, Scott Bennett (4th/5th July). His social clips are delighting online audiences, but his live shows are even more enjoyable. Christopher MacArthur-Boyd, Louise Young and Ian Smith join Scott. What a line up! And one of the circuit’s best-loved acts, Russell Kane, arrives at the Glee on the 11th and 12th

Finally, an extremely honourable mention for Chris Turner, who’s coming to The Wardrobe on 10th July. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when stand-up meets improv rap, then wonder no more.

And as ever, look out for regular comedy nights at Headrow House, The Original Oak, The Hi-Fi Club, The Old Woollen, and the Parkside Tavern.
