Federal Café Sets Its Sights on Leeds With Grand Opening

Chapter 81

Leeds is about to get a whole lot sunnier. Federal – the cult-status brunch spot born in Manchester has confirmed it will officially open its first Leeds café on Monday 15 December, marking a milestone moment for one of the UK’s most-loved independent brunch brands.

And to celebrate in true Federal style, the team will be giving away 1,000 free coffees from 8am on 20 and 21 December. Early risers joining the queue can look forward not only to exceptional coffee but also surprise prize giveaways and limited-edition Leeds merch created especially for launch week.

Federal will also unveil a brand-new Leeds Latte Martini, a playful twist created to honour the city’s thriving cocktail culture.

From Manchester Roots to Global Brunch Fame

Founded by Claudio Ribeiro in 2014, Federal has grown from a single café inspired by Kiwi and Aussie neighbourhood brunch spots to a serious powerhouse in the UK hospitality scene. With four bustling outlets across Manchester – Northern Quarter, Deansgate, Oxford Road and Altrincham – Federal has become known for its signature blend of warm service, standout dishes and meticulous attention to quality.

Everything is made fresh on-site, from the famous Fed sauce to brunch staples that draw queues of loyal fans daily. The brand’s popularity has exploded online too, thanks to its iced Matcha cans going viral on TikTok and an ever-growing community of “Fed fans” sharing their brunch rituals.

Its global appeal was cemented in a recent Betway study analysing more than 300 coffee shops worldwide, which crowned Federal the UK’s most popular independent café and fourth most popular globally. With more than 1.1 million TikTok views and close to 400,000 Google searches each year, Federal’s cult following is undeniable.

What Leeds Can Expect

Federal Leeds will offer the brand’s much-loved all-day brunch menu, with signature dishes including French toast, Steak and eggs, Halloumi and shrooms and a rotating selection of specials.

Drinks will range from expertly crafted coffees and teas to juices, wine, beer and a full cocktail list.

Each Federal café is uniquely designed, but all share the brand’s signature ‘Sunny Side Service’ ethos, a commitment to ensuring every guest leaves feeling better than when they arrived.

“The Perfect Next Chapter”

Speaking ahead of the launch, Ribeiro said:

“We’re incredibly excited to officially announce 15th December as our opening date. There’s a real buzz around Federal coming to Leeds, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone in.

Leeds shares so much of the energy we love about Manchester – a thriving independent scene and a genuine passion for great food and coffee. Bringing Federal to Yorkshire feels like the perfect next chapter, and we’re gearing up for an amazing launch.”

With a strong neighbourhood spirit, a loyal fanbase and a menu that consistently delivers, Federal’s arrival is set to be one of the most exciting openings in Leeds this year.
