Chapter 81

This summer, Trinity Leeds is set to revolutionise the fashion scene with its innovative sustainable fashion initiative, Re.PairLab. Running from June 13th to September 8th, this 12-week pop-up will spotlight emerging designers, local fashion brands, and second-hand sellers, all committed to sustainability and creativity.

What is Re.Pair Lab?

Launched by Landsec in collaboration with Leeds Beckett University and Wayne Hemingway of HemingwayDesign, Re.Pair Lab aims to promote sustainable fashion by transforming pre-loved clothing into new, unique pieces. With rotating residencies featuring Leeds fashion students, local designers, and businesses, will collaborate with charity retailer Emmaus to repair and upcycle garments that might otherwise end up in landfills.

Shop and Learn

Visitors can purchase original creations from resident designers and explore curated collections from second-hand and sustainable sellers. Popular online sellers from platforms like Depop and Vinted will also have the opportunity to establish a physical presence, providing a unique shopping experience. Second-hand sellers interested in participating can apply by contacting events@hemingwaydesign.co.uk before June 28th.

Hands-On Workshops

The lab isn’t just a shopping destination; it’s a community hub for learning and creativity. Free workshops will teach guests DIY techniques for altering and upcycling clothing, empowering them to embrace sustainable fashion practices at home.

Now Open

The initiative started with an exciting launch on June 13th, featuring a t-shirt upcycling workshop and a preview of the first rotation of resident designers, including Wanner Label, Alice D Designs, Tom-o, and Trad Collective. Re:Pair Lab will be open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 7pm, and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
