🗞️ A first look at Macbeth at Leeds Playhouse
A major re-staging of the classic Macbeth is on its way to the Leeds Playhouse, with a wickedly good cast led by Hamilton & Bridgerton start Ash Hunter as Macbeth!
Director and Deputy Artistic Director of Leeds Playhouse, Amy Leach had this to say about the upcoming adaptation: “Macbeth is a rich, exciting and rewarding play to direct – particularly when you’re blessed with such an incredible company of actors and creatives who bring drive, energy and complete commitment to everything they do. Together, we are creating a richly rendered world designed to grip an audience from the moment the lights go down.”
With a cast including names such as Jessica Barlow (Where The Heart Is & Waterloo Road) as Lady Macbeth, Adam Basset (A Christmas Carol, A Midsummer Night’s Dream & Hullraisers) as Macduff, Charlotte Arrowsmith (Troilus and Cressida & As You Like It) as Lady Macduff/Witch, Benjamin Cawley (Doctor Who & Shetland) as Ross.
Assay Afzal (Mrs Sidhu Investigates, How To Be a Person) as Duncan/Doctor/Murderer, Paul Brown (Groan Ups, Vaudeville Theatre) as Lennox, Karina Jones (Much Ado About Nothing & Measure for Measure) as Witch/Gentlewoman, Shahbaaz Khan (Road & Doctors) as Malcolm/Murderer, Daniel Poyser (Nine Night & The Crucible) as Banquo and Elkanah Wilder (Galatea & Brassic) as Witch/Messenger.
Alongside four Leeds school students from the Leeds Playhouse Youth Theatre; Millie Song, Kara Francis, Jayden Jhermaine Candala, Seidi Dias & Josh Ndlovu!
If you’re unfamiliar with Macbeth, it is a tragedy by William Shakespeare centred around the ambitious Macbeth, who becomes entangled in a web of murder and deceit on his quest for power, leading to devastating consequences for himself and those around him.
