🤣 Live Laugh Leeds – Comedy in August 2024

Naturally, August + Comedy = Edinburgh Fringe.

But if overpriced AirBnBs, bored telly execs, and watching performers lose money while landlords and hastily-assembled PR firms rake it in isn’t your thing… then stay in Leeds, watch some top comedy, and gloat over your unravaged bank balance.

For those of a certain age – or with longish memories – there are two legends with special shows at the City Varieties this month.

After 60 years of showbiz success, there’s an evening with Jimmy Tarbuck (22nd August), as the comedian, singer, actor, and entertainer relives iconic moments from his life on stage and screen.

And the following night (23rd August) – the fast-becoming-national-treasure Joe Pasquale presents 40 Years of Cack (his words). And there’s a Q&A afterwards for dedicated fans.

It’s not a comedy night per se, but an honourable mention for the excellent Andrew Scott – as the City Varieties hosts another screening of his performance in Noel Coward’s Present Laughter on the 8th of August

Finally, over to the Hyde Park Book Club, where Simon David brings his Dead Dad Show on the 1st of August, and the controversial Australian comedian Lewis Spears runs through the various death threats that have been sent to him, on the 24th of August

As ever, look out for regular comedy nights at Headrow House, The Original Oak, The Hi-Fi Club, The Old Woollen, and the Parkside Tavern.
