🗞️ Live Laugh Leeds – Comedy in December
Larry Budd
There’s a huge crossover between fans of alternative stand-up comedy, and fans of pantomime. Oh no there i….(DON’T DO IT!)Â
So those who are into the raw thrill of live comedy will be delighted that, this month, circa 90% of performance-bandwidth is taken up by panto. Not! (This is a form of sarcasm: popular in the early 90s)Â
Forgive my tired use of a comic trope, because I actually, personally, and genuinely, love a bit of good panto.Â
But for those who’d rather “never do it again then, won’t we?” (this doesn’t make sense) – you’ll have to settle for one of the greatest living stand-ups. Peter Kay arrives for another much-anticipated Leeds Arena show on the 15th December. Tickets are as rare as pantomime horse poo. So good luck.Â
Elsewhere, The Wardrobe has a comically brilliant New Years Eve planned. Chris Washington, Nina Gilligan, Andre Vincent & Hayley Ellis will perform. There’s a New York-style brass band too. What’s not to love? It’s one of the best ways to bring in the new year in Leeds.Â

The Hi-Fi Club has two great shows coming up this month – firstly, the hilarious Stephen Bailey tops the bill on the 2nd of December, with support from Glenn Wool, Jake Donaldson, and Alex Boardman. And you may have seen Sue Pertrouper at Chow Down’s marvellous Drag Brunches. Here’s another chance so see some of Leeds’ best drag performers in one hilarious variety show on the 8th of December.Â
And as ever, look out for regular comedy nights at Headrow House, The Original Oak, The Old Woollen, and the Parkside Tavern.Â
Plenty to keep you going, until this year is, like the panto ghost, “behind you”. (Welcome To Leeds apologises for the clunkiness of this dreadful sentence.)
