Rolling the dice: inside the Trivial Pursuit Leeds press day

Chapter 81

There’s something rather lovely about a game built entirely on local knowledge landing in the city it’s named after. This summer, Trivial Pursuit Leeds arrives as a citywide activation, and we were invited along to the press day to get an early look at how it all fits together.

The premise is simple and brilliantly Leeds: the city becomes the board. Rather than gathering around a table, players move through real venues and landmarks, answering questions rooted in the place itself. On the day we were walked through two of the standout stops,  Leeds City Museum and Trinity Leeds, and it’s clear a lot of thought has gone into making each location earn its square on the board.

Leeds City Museum is the game’s final destination, and home to six brilliant films, each one linked to a category. The whole space has been transformed into a giant version of the game — a familiar building reimagined as a board you can walk through. Over at Trinity Leeds, where the Entertainment category sits, there’s a steady stream of brilliant trivia and a busier, more contemporary energy. Seeing the two side by side gives you a real sense of the range the activation is going for.

We also popped over to Wellington Place, where the day had a surprise in store: Pudsey Bear made an appearance. It was a warm, slightly surreal moment — not least because Pudsey came face to face with the original Pudsey Bear, on display and looking every bit its age. Two versions of the same well-loved character, one greeting the other, is exactly the sort of unexpected charm that makes a press day worth turning up for.

What comes across most is how firmly Trivial Pursuit Leeds is rooted in the city. This isn’t a generic game with a Leeds sticker on the box; it’s a love letter to the place, its history, its landmarks and its people, designed to be played out in the open across a Leeds summer.

We’ll be sharing more as the activation rolls out, but on the strength of the press day, it’s one to keep on your radar.
