Leeds becomes a giant Trivial Pursuit board this summer

Leeds is marking 400 years since its founding charter in a suitably unexpected way: by turning the city centre into a live, playable version of Trivial Pursuit.

Running from 25 July to 30 August, Trivial Pursuit Leeds is a free trail that works just like the classic board game, only the board is the city itself. Six locations each represent one of the famous categories: Trinity Leeds (Entertainment), Wellington Place (Geography), Merrion Centre (Sports & Leisure), Victoria Gate (Science & Nature), Royal Armouries (History) and Leeds Corn Exchange (Art & Literature).

The rules are simple. Pick up a game card at any of the six locations, answer a Leeds-themed question at each stop, and collect a wedge for every correct answer. You get two attempts, so a wrong guess isn’t the end of the road. Once your card is full, head to the central hub at Leeds City Museum for a final question and the chance to earn your seventh and last wedge.

Complete the set and you can enter the weekly prize draw, with prizes changing each week across the six-week run. Highlights include an overnight stay with dinner at The Met Hotel, cinema tickets from Everyman, a £100 Trinity Leeds voucher, tickets to How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical at Leeds Playhouse, and a Waterstones bundle featuring a Trivial Pursuit board game alongside books from Yorkshire literary heavyweights including Simon Armitage, Alan Bennett, Helen Fielding and Barbara Taylor Bradford.

Keep an eye out for the daily Question for Today too. For a limited window each day, some familiar faces will be popping up around the trail with a bonus question and the chance to win a £500 holiday voucher courtesy of Hays Travel.

Beyond the trail itself, a programme of events runs throughout the summer. Leeds City Museum’s Summer Zone is themed around the six categories with hands-on family areas and pop-up workshops, Trinity Kitchen hosts City of Maths’ Roll the Dice challenge, and Leeds Central Library is opening up its Special Collections with three Treasures Showcase sessions covering everything from the earliest known mention of football in Leeds to the works of William Blake.

Trivial Pursuit Leeds is brought to the city by LeedsBID as part of the Leeds 400 celebrations. Category locations are open 10:00 to 16:00 Monday to Saturday and 11:00 to 16:00 on Sundays, with the central hub open slightly later. Full details at trivialpursuitleeds.com.
