Chapter 81

Leeds food lovers have another big opening to get excited about, as award-winning Indian restaurant My Delhi gets ready to bring its bold flavours and much-loved dishes to the city centre.

Set to open in June 2026, My Delhi is taking over Hepper House on East Parade for its first Yorkshire restaurant and its biggest opening to date. The new flagship venue will span more than 6,000 sq ft within the Grade II-listed building, bringing a major new dining destination to the heart of the city.

Already popular in Newcastle, Sunderland and Leicester, My Delhi has built a strong following for its take on food inspired by the streets and kitchens of the Indian capital. Now, Leeds is next to get a taste.

The new restaurant will feature a main dining hall, a private dining room and a cocktail-led bar, making it a spot that works for everything from laid-back midweek dinners to bigger nights out. The space will also bring together heritage and contemporary design, with traditional fixtures sourced from India and even a bespoke fragrance experience in the washrooms.

Director Elahi Shah said, “Leeds felt like the right next step for us. We’ve always focused on doing things properly, and this gives us the space to take that further. The food remains the same at its core, but the overall experience has been taken up a level. It’s a more complete version of what we’ve been building.”

Food inspired by Delhi sits at the heart of the concept, with a menu that reflects the variety and richness of the city’s food culture. Diners can expect dishes like Cauliflower Manchurian, alongside tandoor-cooked breads and charcoal-grilled kebabs that draw from Old Delhi traditions. There are also slow-cooked favourites, including Emperor’s Stew, a rich nihari-style curry, as well as Butter Chicken 1950s and 1947 Black Dal, both tied closely to their origins in Delhi.

Chef Gaurav Dayal said, “Our cooking has always come from Delhi. That hasn’t changed. What Leeds allows us to do is present it in a more complete way, while keeping the character of the dishes intact.”

My Delhi is arriving in Leeds with plenty of acclaim already behind it. Since launching in 2022, the brand has picked up a string of major accolades, including winning the BBC’s Best British Takeaway, the Lee Kum Kee Ultimate Umami Champion title in the Street Food Championships in 2024, a place in the 2025 British Curry Guide, the Argie Bhaji Food Battle in 2023 and Best Street Food in Britain at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards.

With a growing national reputation and a huge social media following, My Delhi is already one of the most talked-about restaurant brands around, and its Leeds launch is set to be one of the city’s most exciting openings.

Bookings for My Delhi Leeds will open ahead of launch, with guests able to register via the My Delhi website for updates.
