A Festive Yorkshire Reimagining – A Christmas Carol Preview
Chapter 81
Leeds Playhouse is set to sparkle this winter as A Christmas Carol returns to the Quarry Theatre from 20 November 2025 to 17 January 2026. Directed by the Playhouse’s own Amy Leach, this reimagined take on Dickens’ beloved classic promises to fill the season with spirit, song, and Yorkshire warmth.
Set within the heart of the woollen industry, this festive favourite has been beautifully reworked by Deborah McAndrew, bringing Scrooge’s journey of redemption to life against a backdrop steeped in local heritage. With original composed music, stunning design, and a company of actor-musicians, audiences can expect a magical, musical retelling that’s both familiar and refreshingly new.
Among the star-studded cast is Reece Dinsdale, returning to Leeds Playhouse after his heartfelt turn in Through It All Together, now stepping into the iconic role of Ebenezer Scrooge. He’s joined by West End stars Claudia Kariuki (Six the Musical, Sister Act, Shucked) as the joyous Christmas Present, and Obioma Ugoala (Hamilton, Frozen) as Marley/Fezziwig – both bringing powerhouse performances and infectious energy to the stage.
In our exclusive behind-the-scenes video interviews, Director Amy Leach shares her vision for this Yorkshire-infused adaptation, while Claudia and Obioma reflect on the joy of returning to celebrate one of the greatest Christmas stories ever told.
Amy says: “Casting A Christmas Carol has been a joy. I can’t wait to work with this brilliant team of actors who will bring festive joy to Leeds this Christmas. They are an incredible, multi-talented ensemble – singers, dancers, instrumentalists – and I know they’re going to create something really special together.”
With its mix of heart, humour, and hauntingly good performances, A Christmas Carol at Leeds Playhouse is set to be the must-see festive show of the season – a perfect night out for families, theatre lovers, and anyone ready to rediscover the magic of Christmas.
A Christmas Carol runs from 20 November 2025 to 17 January 2026 in the Quarry Theatre. Book tickets at leedsplayhouse.org.uk
