Leeds Transforms into a Wonderland Adventure this Summer
Chapter 81
This summer, the streets of Leeds will come alive with magic, mischief and a dash of madness as the city centre is transformed into Wonderland Awaits — an immersive trail inspired by Lewis Carroll’s beloved tales.
Running from 26 July to 31 August 2025, the free family-friendly experience invites adventurers of all ages to journey through seven whimsical installations dotted across the city, each reimagining iconic scenes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass.
Expect curious encounters, theatrical performances, eccentric characters and interactive storytelling as Leeds becomes a fantastical playground. From venturing Down the Rabbit Hole at the Corn Exchange to a surreal tea party with the Mad Hatter at Victoria Gate, each stop on the trail offers a new adventure. Families can also try their luck at croquet in Aire Park — the first ever public event held there — or come face-to-face with the fearsome Jabberwocky at the Royal Armouries.
A map will guide visitors through all seven locations, where clues, riddles and famous voices bring the journey to life. Comedian Marcus Brigstocke lends his wisdom (and sleepiness) to the trail as the Caterpillar, while Tom Read Wilson purrs his way into character as the elusive Cheshire Cat.
Brought to the city by LeedsBID (Leeds Business Improvement District) in collaboration with Cuddle Creative Works, the experience blends world-class production with local talent from Leeds Beckett University and Leeds Conservatoire.
In addition to the trail, a packed programme of Wonderland-themed activity includes craft workshops at John Lewis and Trinity Leeds, classic film screenings at Hyde Park Picture House, and surprise pop-ups throughout the city.
“Wonderland Awaits will get people exploring Leeds, making memories and embracing their imagination,” says Jo Coburn, Centre Director at Victoria Leeds. LeedsBID’s Chief Executive, Andrew Cooper, adds: “It’s about creating magic in the everyday and encouraging everyone to step into a story.”
Whether you’re young or just young at heart, Leeds promises a summer of storytelling, creativity and connection, just don’t be late.
