'Your local film lab', which I will be cheeky to say is absolutely the best. Not only do they develop your film quickly and with fantastic quality, but they also host amazing Photo Social events that create the friendliest community for anyone interested in photography. No matter what kind of photos you like to take (even on your phone!), you're always welcome to come and share your work or just hang out with other photography enthusiasts. I found my first-ever friend in Leeds there, and continue meeting incredible people.
Coffee

The Leeds indie coffee scene is very strong. My personal favourite coffee shop is Laynes. Their coffee, food, and vibes are always wonderful. I love stopping in for a quick take-away oat cappuccino, or a relaxed brunch with a friend on the weekend.
Fika North is another brilliant speciality coffee bar, just a bit further from the centre. Inspired by Swedish coffee culture, they brought Fika (a moment to slow down and appreciate the good things in life) to Leeds, and I'm fully here for it.
Kirkgate Market
Kirkgate Market, Leeds, UK
This is exactly the type of market that I used to see in English textbooks. Apart from its immaculate look, it also hosts some great independent stalls, which I already can't imagine my Leeds life without.
I get a tiny bit of Eastern European home from the Polish Bakery Karpaty (Karpaty aka Carpathian Mountains also cover the Western part of Ukraine), and can never resist buying something from The Plant Shop. The fruit, veg, and seafood stalls are always bursting with fresh and vibrant produce too. Trust me, whenever I go to the market, I leave with purchases and pictures on my phone.
Maki & Ramen
Maki & Ramen, Bond Street, Leeds, UK
It’s a real toughie to pick one favourite food place in Leeds - there are way too many great options! I suggest exploring the restaurant scene as much as possible. The majority of the time, you won’t be disappointed!
Maki & Ramen just recently opened in Leeds, it has been gaining a lot of popularity, and for good reason. They have a big variety of delicious ramen, the freshest sushi, and loads of vegan options. Plus, their staff are super friendly and they serve tasty drinks too. It’s an amazing place for any time of the day and occasion. Don't forget to leave a sticky note on their walls - it's a great fun activity and you'll see so many interesting notes there.
Almscliffe Crag
Almscliffe Crag, Crag Lane, Leeds, UK
The postcode is LS17, so it's still Leeds, right? This beautiful Millstone Grit outcrop sits atop a small hill that overlooks the stunning Wharfe Valley. Despite its picturesque location, it's not very crowded, making it a perfect place to relax and unwind. If you're feeling adventurous, you can do some climbing, or simply soak up the surroundings enjoying getting away from that urban noise. After, I really recommend popping into a lovely village pub less than a mile away for a refreshing pint, hot chocolate or a right nice meal.
Roland's
Roland's Leeds, Call Lane, Leeds, UK
I consider it not-so-hidden, but a gem of the Call Lane, with a quieter and more ambient atmosphere than in the other bars on the street. It's been recognised as one of the Top 50 UK Cocktail Bars, and in my opinion - rightfully so! You'll find three different areas at Roland's - the rooftop, the courtyard, and the main bar - so you can easily find a spot to sit, depending on your mood or the season. And if you're craving some delicious eats, they also serve Sourdough Detroit-style pizza from Homeboy Pizza Co.
Hey! I’m Lisa, and I moved to Leeds exactly one year ago from the date this was published (what perfect timing!) from Ukraine. I’m originally a southern girl, used to sunshine and nice weather all year around, but as a happy coincidence, I ended up in the North, which I’m thrilled about. Even though England is quite different from my home country, Leeds gave me the warmest welcome and has been an incredible place to call home.
