Tetley’s Vegetarian Winter Menu
The Restaurant at The Tetley Contemporary Art Gallery has just launched a new winter plant-based All Day Menu. Meat dishes will be available from the specials board and the celebrated Sunday Roast will still be served, along with vegetarian and vegan alternatives.
Jade Crawley, formerly of Eat Your Greens, said that she has been brought up vegetarian so has a wealth of experience in bringing out the best in plant-based ingredients. She also enjoys putting a twist on familiar dishes to make them more accessible to those who would normally be meat eaters.
Another aspect of the restaurant is that it aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, an ethos reinforced by the policy of using produce which is in season and sourcing from local growers wherever possible. I was lucky enough to be invited to sample selections from the brunch menu, which were uniformly superb.
The Breakfast Grazing Board was a variety of the things you would expect, but done in Jade’s style. The yoghurt was coconut and vanilla with yuzu honey, there was coffee flavoured granola, French toast with maple syrup, fresh fruit salad and cheese and chive omelette roll with vegan option available.
The next item was a vegan dish, Getting Curried Away! It is a Tanzanian curry with coconut, winter root vegetables and tofu served with roti bread. Jade is generous enough to credit this recipe to Dorinda Hafner rather than have everyone think it is her own. Whoever is responsible it was excellent.
The Sharing Course of Warm Winter Salad arrived laden with produce from Meanwood Valley Urban Farm and Organic North, dressed with house yuzu ponzu dressing. Again a vegan option was available.
Finally came the desserts. There was Croissant ‘bread’ and butter pudding with warm toffee sauce and a scoop of Lick of Horsforth ice cream, and On a Roll, deep fried mince pie spring rolls served with dipping custard, again vegans are catered for.
Unsurprisingly Jade said that she was gearing the kitchen up for Veganuary so expect lots of goodies to bring in the New Year.
There are also a couple of special events happening in the near future; Provenence on Friday 20th January and Love Life: Valentine’s Restaurant Takeover on 14th February.
