Chapter 81

The year continues to unfold at breakneck speed, and with Easter just around the corner, we’ve turned our thoughts to fun things to do throughout April. It’s officially the month of sweet treats, new beginnings and more sunshine than any of us have seen for at least six (thousand) months – so let’s take a look!

Every day from the 4th to the 22nd of April, Thackray Museum of Medicine will be hosting a vibrant range of Easter themed activities for adults and children alike. From an egg hunt in the galleries and a knowledge-testing ‘Matching Hatching Game’ to an ‘Egg’eads’ quiz, and joke (sorry, yolk) competition and more, this really is the place to be this Easter.
141 Beckett St, Harehills, Leeds LS9 7LN.

There’s plenty going on at Leeds Grand this April, but why not get your air guitar on and grab some tickets to see School of Rock the Musical? The Andrew Lloyd Webber spectacular will grace the stage from 4th–9th April, so prepare for heart-warming classics and a soundtrack you’ll be singing all week.
Leeds Grand Theatre, 46 New Briggate, Leeds LS1 6NU.

Feeling crafty this April? Water Lane Boathouse might just have you covered with its Dish and Pot Decorating Workshop, taking place on Wednesday 6th April at 6.30pm. You’ll be guided through the session by Beccy from Cut and Curve, as you design, paint and vinyl your very own ceramic vessel. All equipment provided, all abilities welcome.
Water Lane Boathouse, Canal Wharf, Holbeck, Leeds LS11 5PS.

Spend some time eggsploring the city from April 8–18th, with our Easter Bunny Egg Hunt – set to take you and the whole family on a springtime adventure. Head down to the Easter Bunny Egg Garden at Victoria Leeds on Sidney Street between 11am and 4pm to pick up your map and take on the challenge of locating 12 eggs across the city.
Sidney Street, Victoria Leeds, LS2 7AU.

After a year spent online, Leeds Young Film Festival is set to return in person this year from 11–16th April. The largest event of its kind in the north, LYFF welcomes children and families to enjoy a programme full of the best new and unseen cinema made for and by young people from around the world. Expect screenings, workshops, masterclasses and more in seven of the city’s best-known venues.
Belgrave Music Hall, Cottage Road Cinema, Everyman Leeds, Howard Assembly Room, Leeds School of Arts, National Science and Media Museum, Vue at The Light.

Head down to Temple Arches from April 14th to witness Chow Downs next chapter. The venue will be reimagined, with three new spaces and a summer makeover set to give the whole experience a fun feel. Expect brand-new food traders including Sarto, MorMor, Boro Slice and Holy Mountain, plus a huge range of entertainment, cocktails, crazy golf and more.
Chow Down, Temple Arches, Leeds LS11 5QG.

Something very special is unfolding here in Leeds on Friday 15th April, as Sneaky Experience brings its family-friendly Alice in Wonderland Easter Experience to Kirkstall Abbey’s atmospheric walls. Meet your favourite characters from Lewis Caroll’s classic tale, play dress up and enjoy a magical walkabout theatre. What’s not to love?
Kirkstall Abbey, Abbey Road, Kirkstall, Leeds LS5 3EH.

Friday 15th April will see Belgrave Music Hall, Headrow House and Howard Assembly Room come alive with some of the very best new music, as Launchpad Festival takes over. Marking the start of this year’s Launchpad Conference (a free day of panels, workshops and networking for aspiring music industry pros), the festival will feature more than 30 emerging artists from across Yorkshire, and promises an inspiring, eclectic night of fresh talent.

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for… that’s right, the Sausage and Cider Festival is back, bringing with it a whole host of great food and drink to the Royal Armouries. Head down to one of Leeds’ iconic venues on 30th April to sample an array of ciders, beers and more, plus a range of different sausages and great live music to boot. The Royal Armouries, Armouries Drive, Leeds LS10 1LT.
